Phlebotomy Continuing Education Requirements
By law in the state of California, a phlebotomist must be state certified or they are not allowed to work as a phlebotomist. Certified Phlebotomy Technicians must obtain a total of 6 contact hours continuing education units accredited / approved by California Department of Public Health-Laboratory Field Services (CDPH-LFS) in two years for a two-year renewal cycle from the date your certificate is issued.

What if I fail the quiz?
You must correctly answer at least 80% of the quiz questions to pass the course. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you may make a second attempt at no additional charge.
How long do I have to finish this course?
This course is self-paced and will not expire. You will not be given your CE certificate until you have passed the test at the end of each course.
How long is a course supposed to take me?
The CDPH-LFS rules state that you must spend 50 minutes for each contact hour of credit you earn.
Can I take the same course twice?
You cannot take the same course twice as the CDPH-LFS will not allow credit for a course you have already taken. These courses were designed specifically for phlebotomists. Phlebotomists licensed in California may earn credit for them, but no credit will be granted to medical technologists or clinical laboratory scientists.
